How to Tie a Bow Tie

Nothing says, “style” like a one-of-a-kind bow tie.  Here are some June/Summer activities that will require bow ties:

-Father’s Day     -Picnics

-Weddings          -Memorial Day Cookout and/or parade

-Funerals            -Birthdays

-Work                 -Golf tournament

-Graduation

Whatever the occasion (they make you look good when you are just walking around the house or at the grocery store) you will need to know how to tie those glorious strands around your neck! Now, for those of you who tie your shoes using the “Bunny Ear” method (very scientific term), this will not be so hard. Those who tie their shoes the other way (bunny and the burrow?) might take longer to learn the method.

Directions:

Step 1: Put the bow tie around your neck. Make sure one side is a little longer than the other.

Step 2: Cross the longer side over the shorter side.

Step 3: Loop the longer under and up so that it can rest on your shoulder.

Step 4: Fold the left end of the tie horizontally, centering it under your chin (makes the shape of a bow).

Step 5: Hold the fold with one hand as you drop the other end of the tie over the front. Use your thumb to hold a space behind the bow.

Step 6: Pinch the center of the widest part of the handing end between your finger and thumb. Form another bow with this end of the tie. (The picture shows me folding the end up the front, you can also fold it up the back)

Step 7: Poke this loop (bow, either name works) through the space you have been holding with your thumb, creating a knot behind the bow. Even the ends of your bow tie and tighten. (The first picture, below, shows the loop that I was holding with my thumb)

Congratulations! You just tied a bow tie! Don’t forget to purchase your bow tie at Bonnets and Bow Ties!
